The Rob Nanninga Lion Quad

Dear visiter,

please note that all my blogs about Rob Nanninga, up till now consisting of four parts, have been revised, expanded and published on Lion Hearts Wordpress 2017.

Lion Hearts Part I: Rob Nanninga – Who took (t)his picture? Answered
Lion Hearts Part II: Lion, Where Are You?
Lion Hearts Part III: Rob Nanninga, The Lion
Lion Hearts Part IV: Lion Hearts

The first three blogs on this site do not reflect all the many form and content changes. I still have to decide if I will remove existing blogs on or replace them.

As I was establishing the most recent Part IV and decided to name it "Lion Hearts", I decided to take it to Wordpress as well. There, I have been able to make some real improvements on the overall presentation. Then moving the first three Rob Nanninga blogs to Wordpress as well - which wasn't at all hard to do, because my blogs were encoded with universal html - I did find they were not that compatible with this latest, most sophisticated (language, structure, etc.) blog up till now. Of course, my English improved some too (or so I hope) in the two year span between Part III, "Rob Nanninga, The Lion" and Part IV, "Lion Hearts".

So, after publishing Lion Hearts Part IV on January 9, 2017, and letting it sit for a while, I concluded I had no choice then to continue working with the three earliers blogs, if I wanted this to be a coherent body. Early February 2017, I updated all three previous blogs, each blog was about a one day's work. All have been revised in terms of content and appearance to adjust to the formatting of Part IV. I have taken the opportunity to do some serious language editing as well. “Contents”, “Footnotes”, more links and, where available, images of higher resolution and last but not least: substantial new content have been added to all parts now.

I am considering to publish this as a book in future (and so, yes, I expect to write some more parts).

Please make a lion or lioness jump to Wordpress to read all these new versions. For the time being, until I decide how to proceed with the older versions on this website, I will add click-through links on the top of each (outdated) single blog as well.

I have to take into account that Google has been spidering the first three blogs on this website including all images and they have gained some noticable position on Google, so it wouldn't be desirable to just remove them from this personal site, and I am not sure I want to: I would miss Rob on my site.

Thank you for understanding.

Lion Hearts has arrived

I can keep it short this time: "Lion Hearts" has finally arrived. It's part IV of my Rob Nanninga sequel. It now really feels like I'm back writing books. Who knows, time will tell.

Here it is: Lion Heartsheart

In time, I probably will make a "backup" on this constantiaoomen-website. I have to think about it if I set this copy to "visible", because that would mean that there are two versions of exactly the same on the internet.

Hi there. smiley

Several recent updates considering, all about this one, upcoming blog... It seemed better to post this update separately, to tell you about another Wordpress domain I started, to combine and publish all blogs about Rob Nanninga. It seemed better that way.

I have decided to publish my fourth Rob Nanninga blog, titled "Lion Hearts" on January 1, 2017. Meanwhile, you can (re)read the previous three parts here: - consider it a book in the making, and hence don't expect it to be a "hurried encounter".

Promise to publish two new blogs soon

Update July 16, 2016

Check back soon and have a sneak preview with a couple of photos (click on: "Read on").

As it turns out, not one, but two new blogs will soon be published at the same time: one update about Lion Rob Nanninga and one about Jeroen and me living the Dream (in the States).

Update October 15, 2016: "So when is this Lion blog coming? And when this update blog about living in the States? You announced them in March 2016 already?" Uh yeah, that's true.

It's that thing about the lions blog. Maybe I should replace the word "blog" by "book in the making". Uh oh. blush It keeps expanding, due to lots of photos too. I'm afraid, my verbosity is preceding me. And my hesitation continues to play out. It's all about Rob Nanninga and cuddling plush lions and I am not a kid anymore, right? Uh, well... uh... Being an Original never was a problem to me, so I guess what's coming next shouldn't be any "stranger" than what I published before, though it's not the same.

Maybe a few critics are sharpening their knives in advance, maybe even hungry to bite my head off? Think carefully before doing so, because to me, this is not a frivolous game and it never has been. But if you still want to do it, well, I can't stop you. If you want to fight love, just give it your best shot. wink

My blog, "book in the making", about Rob Nanninga and the lions is at an advanced state, maybe only a couple of days or week (or two) or so left before it's finished. That doesn't guarantee I will publish it as soon as it is ready. It's not something I do lightheartedly. And I'm still not sure about it.

Behind the scenes of Robbert van den Broeke

Robbert van den Broeke - Google Dead People

I have been following the whereabouts of Dutch 'medium' Robbert van den Broeke since 2004-2005. In between, you could already read about it in a previous blog. After Rob Nanninga's passing (read previous blogs), things accelerated in a rapid pace, and then something awefull happened: my computer and cell phone got hacked by Robbert van den Broeke's alleged hacker. For people who have no idea what I'm talking about: not to worry, I'll fill you in.

After initial shock, I realized, I had to describe the nasty life and times of Robbert van den Broeke and his closest buddy, and partner in crime, Stan Pluijmen in full detail, to inform and warn other people, but even this long blog I then wrote in about a week's time, couldn't cover it all . Still, I gave it a good shot. Long read:

Rob Nanninga, The Lion, Only Conquered By Love

Since you left, Rob, Lion, I have seen you in my mind's eye while I was cycling. I saw you standing on the side of the road, casually leaning against trees, smiling at me. I felt you, 'sitting' on my rear bicycle rack, enjoying the ride too, while you held and kissed my right hand that I held behind my back, while you hugged me from behind in joy. I saw you while you colored a rainbow in the sky for me. While my bike sped forwards, I felt you kissing me as the brilliant, flashing beams of sunlight passed through my eyelids.

And I had so many of out-of-body experiences in 2014, the year you went away. I will tell more about it.

Bésame mucho

Besame, besame mucho,
Como si fuera esta noche la última vez,
Besame, besame mucho,
Que tengo miedo a perderte, perderte despues [twice]

Quiero sentirte muy cerca mirarme en tus ojos verte junto a mí
Piensa que tal vez mañana yo ya estare lejos, muy lejos de ti
Kiss me a lot

Kiss me, kiss me a lot,
As if tonight were the last time
Kiss me, kiss me a lot,
For I'm scared to lose you, to lose you afterwards

I want to feel you very close, see myself in your eyes, see you near me
Think that maybe tomorrow I'll already be far, very far away from you

Rob Nanninga 1990

Since I was a baby, I loved stuffed animals, to this day. This love has a tragic side. When I lost one, I could cry for hours, days, weeks... Inseperable as with very best friends of flesh and blood.

Besides hug bunnies I had a hug lion, orange with long manes, something like this, but more sophisticated:

Rob Nanninga

Hello everybody.

I promise to write a blog soon, but something has come up, and I hope Google will work its magic again.

After the very sad and recent passing on May 30, 2014 of my very precious friend Rob Nanninga, there is this Wikipedia article in the making (look here)...

His faithful friend Jan Willem Nienhuys - of the Dutch Skeptic Foundation - wrote this 'In Memoriam':

In Memory of Rob Nanninga

On May 30, 2014, skeptic Rob Nanninga, founding member of Skepsis in the Netherlands, and editor-in-chief of its periodical Skepter, died aged 58. No one else had so much influence on Skepsis, both by setting an example and by his method of work.

After a year, an update.

- We still live in Davis.
It turns out that our initial choice was the very best too. After checking out San Francisco and surrounding area, like Hercules and San Rafael, and visiting lots of other places, we have concluded, there's no place like... Davis. It's safe and peaceful, we have enough living space with three bedrooms, 1.5 bathroom, a large kitchen, very large living room and garden, there is beautiful nature, mountains in the near distance, lots of space for me to bike on a flat subsurface, an Army of Love in our garden with a steady growing amount of birds and a small army of Squirrels.

Our feathery buddies in our front- and backyard include:
Anna's Hummingbird, Scrub Jay, House FinchMourning Dove, Robin, Cedar Waxwing, American Goldfinch, Dark-Eyed JuncoRed-breasted Nuthatch (they sound like Zebra Finches!), Mockingbird, White-crowned Sparrow, Downy Woodpecker, Hermit Thrush, Red-shafted Northern Flicker And more!

* I will continue to update this list when I have more names of loyal birdie visitors.

In Davis, additional: Turkey Vulture

Sticking around

A short update. After some research of San Francisco (the city we have fallen in love with) and surrounding areas like Daly City, East Bay, San Rafael and Hercules, we have decided to stick around in Davis.

San Francisco is very expensive where housing is concerned. What we are looking for: a Single-Family Home, is almost impossible in San Francisco. We live in a kind of Single-Family Home now in Davis, in fact, it is a large 3 br, 1,5 ba, large kitchen and large living room, extra laundry room, semi-detached house. We have a front, side and backyard with the most amazing circus of all kinds of birds* and squirrels, and we would have to give that up in San Francisco.

* Most prominent birds in our garden: Anna's Hummingbird, Scrub Jay, House FinchMourning Dove, Robin, Cedar Waxwing, American Goldfinch, Dark-Eyed JuncoRed-breasted Nuthatch (they sound like Zebra Finches!), Mockingbird, White-crowned Sparrow, Downy Woodpecker, Hermit Thrush, Northern Flicker
In Davis, additional: Turkey Vulture

There is more: biking in Davis, Sacramento and surrounding areas is 'a piece of cake' with lots of possibilities, because it is flat around here, and that too is a different piece of cake in San Francisco and surrounding areas.

We checked out Hercules: it's a lovely place, and biking is possible, but it is very limited and there are a lot of elevations. It turns out Davis is very safe too; we heard that places like Richmond, that is close to Hercules, do have crime. The house we checked out in Hercules had an elaborate security system. In Davis, no such thing is needed, because like I told a long time ago, Davis is like a little city in a friendly, safe bubble. Even people in Davis describe it like that, without suggesting something like that to them; they are using the word 'bubble' themselves too.

One Year In The USA

Dear Readers.

I am not sure if you have been missing my blogs, but is has been a year since I wrote one. Maybe some people are wondering how Jeroen and I are doing in the USA?
Some people on my own Dutch forum of even wondered whether I was deceased, so I thought: maybe I should write a new blog, it's long overdue. wink

We are still living in Davis, and it hasn't rained here for about 5-6 months now. Every day is a sunny day with an endless blue sky, sometimes a few modest clouds. Our garden is filled with divine Hummingbirds, Scrub Jays and other subtropical birds. Don't forget the squirrels! We have been doing fine. North California is an amazing, almost heavenly place on Earth. Nature is endless and beautiful, people are very friendly, and the environment is well taken care of.

Since June 2012, I have been teaching German again, part-time, at a German language school in Sacramento. Because I was out a couple of years (since 2007), I had to refresh my German again. Teaching has always been in my blood, so it was not hard to teach again. New was the combo-use of German and English - no Dutch anymore. The American people I have in my classes (age approximately 23-75) are very eager to learn, polite and friendly students. Keeping 'order' in the class is not an issue yes, so I can concentrate on the content of my German curriculum.

I can write a long epistle and I can also put it briefly.  Well...

My children's book THROUGH HEAVEN is finally published after being put on hold for more than two years (it was like that with THROUGH THE WINDOW, that would have been published in 1997, but didn't see the light of publish day until 2000). In true spirit of the times, this book has the scoop in the virtual world, it's available in the iTunes Store as iPhone and iPad app!

Don't hold back for money's sake: it's only $0.99! You get the whole book for it! (including music and more!)

Dear you.

How have you been doing lately? I know you all have been dying to hear something from me , and I feel very ashamed that it took me over 5 months to write a new blog.

You Dutch people must feel awkward that I'm writing in English now. I could write it in Dutch too, but maybe I'm a little bit too lazy for that, I'm not sure.

Besides that, guess I always want to do things thoroughly and writing in Dutch feels like I'm not doing it thoroughly. But I hope you can all understand my English?

The update is a big one: Jeroen and I have immigrated to the United States of America. I wrote about Jeroen winning the DV 2011 Lottery, and thus winning Green cards to live and work in the U.S.A. We started out in Thousand Oaks, which is near L.A., and  it seems like paradise to us, because of its fabulous trees and views. Keith and Amber were there to assist us in our first steps on American ground, and they did that in an unprecedented manner.

Emigration USA Continued - Green Cards!

I have been waiting to write the next US blog until Jeroen and I had more certainty about our emigration. That moment has now come. Where will I start, well, let me think...

May 14. 2010 Jeroen got the announcement he was selected in the DV 2011 Lottery of the US Government. This is a Lottery by which means you don't win money (well, for the time being that is), but you win the right to live and work in The USA. Because only about 2.5 % of the Lottery participants wins, it's kind of a big deal. To us it was and is!

I always had that magic thing going on with the US. Sometimes it just killed me (figuratively) that I wasn't there. You can call it 'homesick'. Yes, I'm Dutch, but that's the way I felt about it. Then Jeroen and I visited America (Washington, Oregon, California) together in 2009 and he too fell in love with this country. It was the second time we entered the US Lottery and this time we got it all right. Jeroen did, and because we are married, I was the lucky 'Appendix' and am allowed to travel with him. Then we had to wait for a year! Jeroen had lucky number 252##, which meant that we were not among the first ones to have the emigration interview at the American Embassy in Amsterdam (they start in October each year). I calculated we would have our interview around May 2011, and May it was.
